Peri-SCN area dopaminergic neuron lesion induced glucose intolerance. Animals received an infusion of 6-OHDA (8 μg) at the peri-SCN area bilaterally. A GTT was performed at 16 weeks after either 6-OHDA or sham lesion at 6 h after light onset. Plasma glucose and insulin levels were monitored before and at 30, 60, 90 and 120 min after glucose (3 g/kg BW, i.p.) was administered. The figure depicts the GTT plasma insulin (a), GTT plasma glucose (b) the area under the insulin (c) and glucose (d) GTT curve and Matsuda insulin sensitivity index derived from the GTT (e), and body weight gain at the end of the study (f). Data are expressed as mean ± SEM (n = 8 for each group). *P < 0.05 or ** P < 0.01 significant difference between treatment groups (two-way ANOVA with repeated measures followed by Student’s t-test, or unpaired Student’s t-test as appropriate)
