Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) stained sections detect that progesterone replacement attenuated the glomerulosclerotic index (GSI) in the diabetic kidney. A PAS-stained sections (magnification, ×200) show that the percentage of the PAS-positive material, indicative of increased fibrosis, was significantly increased in the D and the D-OVX groups compared with the ND group (arrows). Progesterone replacement inhibited the increase in the PAS-positive material in the D + OVX + P group (B) GSI. Data represent the mean ± SEM.
