Effects of leucine (Leu) on mitochondria fusion in cardiomyocytes. The percentage of cells displaying a fused mitochondria and the b mitochondrial volume and c the number of mitochondria per cell were evaluated for 4 h at 30 min intervals after Leu pretreatment on isolated rat cardiomyocytes. The result of time 0 was used as the baseline. Leu led to an increase in mitochondrial fusion and mitochondrial volume and a decrease in the number of mitochondria after 2 h of incubation. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01 vs. control (Cont). d Leu treatment (160 μM) for 2 h caused a decrease in the number of mitochondria and an increase in mitochondrial fusion in cardiomyocytes
