The TAGE theory of LSRD. Among the various types of AGE structures generated in vivo, TAGE, but not non-toxic AGEs, such as CML, CEL, pentosidine, and pyrraline, appear to play an important role in the pathophysiological processes associated with LSRD. We postulate that non-toxic AGE structures may be physiologically relevant for preventing the potentially damaging consequences of the advanced glycation process.
