  2. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001 for differences in mean values between men and women in each age group by t-test.
  3. P for trend across the age groups was calculated by a linear regression analysis where the age group was coded as consecutive integers. All p-values for homogeneity among the age groups were also significant at p < 0.001 by analysis of variance (not shown in table).
